Clovis was a kind and humble man but a giant in optimization. He looked at problems from a fresh and deep perspective, and then explained his contributions in a simple and humorous way that inspired students and young researchers. An engineer and mathematician with interests in philosophy, his artistic tastes ran from Larson to Uderzo to Vermeer. It was always such a treat to meet him and Tania around the world to share great food, drink, and conversations.

Truly one of nature’s gentlemen.
